Live Your Perfect Life by Putting Aside Perfection (Part 1 of 2)

September 3rd, 2010

Are you waiting to be perfect?

When is good enough, good enough? So often I hear from clients and friends about a fabulous idea they have, or a long-embodied dream they’ve held on to, only to put off doing the idea or dream until they get it “just right,” and before they knew it, just right turned into just never. Looking over my fifty-two years, I can recall countless instances of putting off launching an idea or dream, because I didn’t think I knew enough, or because the project wasn’t complete or perfect enough.

The need for perfection is the killer of dreams. It’ll squelch ideas and action faster than making mistakes ever could. Furthermore, the need for perfection is an ego-based need and will keep you from being able to tune into the subtle inner sensations that give you direction and tell you what to do next.

These sensations, the voice of your inner guidance, guide you perfectly even if you think you are not ready. Don’t let the voices in your head that are telling you why you are not good enough, or competent enough, or experienced enough keep you from sharing yourself and your unique ideas and gifts with the world.

Let’s agree that not all ideas are meant to be acted on, and concentrate on that idea or dream you’ve held on to for a long time, but have been afraid to launch because you want to get it perfected–fully mapped out and designed–before you get it out there. Let’s suppose you have a product you have been working on for several months. The more you work on it, the more you see things you’d like to add to it to make it “even better”. Got one of those? Many of us have some hidden idea or dream we’ve been tinkering with in the back rooms of our minds or even in the garage.

What is keeping you from sharing it just the way it is right now? Again, if you have a widget and it doesn’t work yet, then perhaps it is prudent to get it working before releasing it, but what about the widget that does work and works well, yet you’d like it to be better? If you’ve got one of those, perhaps its time to ask yourself, “What am I waiting for?”

Here’s the deal about perfection, it doesn’t exist, at least, not the way our minds think about perfection. Perfection to the ego looks and sounds like this:

My product has to always work.

No one else will have this service; I have to crush the competition.

It’s got to be better than what is out there, or no one will buy it.

I don’t want to be embarrassed or laughed at in the industry.

My reputation is on the line, I can’t make any mistakes.

Who am I to offer this when I am just an average person unlike the experts out there?

We all applaud a dedication to doing and being your best. This isn’t about putting out shoddy work or products, it’s about honoring your best as it is in the present moment, and allowing your best to grow and develop by sharing your creations with others, and stepping into the unknown. The fascinating thing about getting your idea, dream, product, or service out there before it is all the way perfect is: You might find out it is “perfect enough”.

You will receive the necessary feedback that provides you specific ideas for improvement, and gives your customers what they are asking for.

The ideal of perfection is overrated. So, how can you get over the grip that the desire to be perfect might have on you? Here are three-easy-ways to put aside perfection and get your dream out there sooner rather than never.

1. First start with something small. What product, service, or idea have you been entertaining that would be fairly easy to share in a short amount of time? Let’s say you want to write a book about your grandmother’s favorite recipes, but have been putting it off because you haven’t taste-tested or prepared all of them. Begin smaller. How about sharing a recipe a week with family and friends by offering a weekly online newsletter? These newsletters when compiled can evolve into a full-blown book. Once you break a project into smaller components the mind relaxes into an “I can do this” state and the grip of perfection loosens.

2. Gather five suggestions from trusted friends or colleagues. Only five. Send five people the product or service you have just the way it is, and ask them to give you feedback on how it works for them, can be improved or made better. When my business partner and I launched our first Tele-seminar, we were writing the course as we were teaching it. Then we’d receive feedback from our students and incorporated their suggestions. The second time around doing the class, it was amazingly better, and importantly, we were able to offer what our students wanted. No way could we have received those suggestions without presenting a less than perfect program.

3. Offer a beta program. A beta program is when you let someone test or try out your product or service at minimal or no cost so that you can receive “real time” feedback. How often have major companies had to go back to the drawing board after a first and even a second launch? Perfection is more a process than an end result. If it feels uncomfortable to charge people for a service you aren’t convinced is your best or is still under development, then a beta program may be just the ideal compromise.

I have a marketing mentor whose newsletters I receive by mail each month. This individual is very well known and very successful in the online and direct marketing fields. Yet, it often amazes me how filled his newsletter is with typos, “bad grammar” and assorted other non-perfect errors. Yet, undeniably, the content is extraordinary and valuable. Imagine if he fretted over where to put the comma, or whether every word was grammatically placed, instead of getting his content out there.

So listen up, we are waiting for your ideas and services. We are waiting for you to share with us your creative genius. What are you waiting for?

In Part 2, get valuable insights on how to recognize those subtle inner sensations that tell you what to do next.

Nimh Rechargeable Batteries For High Drain Devices

September 3rd, 2010

NiMH rechargeable batteries, mainly known as the nickel-metal hydride cell is a secondary electrochemical cell which is similar to the Nickel hydrogen cell. The NiMH batteries use the hydrogen absorbing alloy instead of the cadmium. A NiMH rechargeable battery can have two to three times the capacity of any equivalent size of the nickel-cadmium battery. The self discharge of NiMH batteries is higher.

Purchasing NiMH rechargeable batteries is easy as they are readily available in the retail stores as well as online stores. The common sizes are the AA and AAA. For the C and D applications, adapter sleeves are available. These batteries are not very expensive and the voltage and performance is also similar to the alkaline batteries. In fact they can be used as substitutes for the same purpose. As these NiMH rechargeable batteries can be used several times and deliver good performance, one can save a lot of money as well as other resources.

NiMH rechargeable batteries are mainly used in the hand held electronic devices like the digital cameras, mp3 players, laptops etc. These batteries are of a great advantage when used for the high drain devices. Gadgets such as the toys or video game controllers or the digital cameras, which need frequent replacement of the battery, can get benefits from the NiMH rechargeable batteries. It is necessary to check the quality of these NiMH rechargeable batteries. There are many stores which sell cheap quality batteries at affordable prices, but buying them might not be good in the long run. Never compromise the quality for the price of the product. To buy high performance and good quality NiMH rechargeable batteries to can go to a reputed store or buy it online from a trusted store.

Used Auto Warranty Warning: Beware Dealer-Issued Extended Auto Warranty Coverage

September 3rd, 2010

Buying a used car? You need an extended auto warranty to protect you from expensive surprises down the road. But be careful when your dealer tries to sell you used auto extended warranty coverage. Usually, the dealer is simply reselling used auto warranties issued by a used auto warranty company, with a markup of up to $1000. You could just as easily have bought the extended warranty directly from the auto warranty company.

But overpaying for a third-party used car extended auto warranty is certainly not the worst used auto warranty deal you can get. The worst auto extended warranty deal is to buy one that isn’t issued by a third party at all.

Dealer-Issued Extended Auto Warranties Explained

Yes, some dealers actually sell extended auto warranties they’ve created themselves. These dealer-issued auto warranties typically only allow you to get service at the dealership. They either don’t cover repairs done anywhere else at all, or they only cover emergency repairs for breakdowns.

Often, a dealer-issued used auto extended warranty even restricts you to getting maintenance at the dealership only. With a captive clientele, the dealerships often charge much more than local mechanics.

There are some other big problems with a dealer-issued used auto extended warranty:

What happens if you move far away? Answer: you’d have to buy another auto warranty.

What if you’re driving somewhere far away when your car breaks down? Answer: if the used auto warranty doesn’t cover reimbursements for emergency service, you’re in trouble. Even if it does cover reimbursements, you’d better hope your credit card or checking account can handle the damage in the meantime.

What if the dealership goes bankrupt? Answer: get in line behind the banks, the car manufacturer, the dealership’s vendors, and everyone else trying to get money out of the business.

What if you just aren’t satisfied with the dealer’s work? Answer: complain very, very nicely. You can’t take your business elsewhere unless you’re willing to pay for it.

If you comparison shopped the dealer-issued extended auto warranty, you’d realize it wasn’t worth it. But most people never do a used auto extended warranties comparison. There is simply so much ignorance about auto warranties. Your best hope is to learn more.

Dealer-Issued Used Auto Warranties: Why Does Anyone Buy Them?

Most often, the buyer simply never thought about an extended auto warranty before going to the dealership. When the salesperson explains how important extended auto warranty coverage is, the buyer just thanks him for the tip and buys it.

The buyer doesn’t realize how expensive the warranty is. Of course, car repairs can potentially be so expensive that even an overpriced dealer-issued warranty can pay for itself several times over. Meanwhile, next to a $15,000 car, even an overpriced $2500 dealer-issued warranty seems cheap. But if you’re going to buy a warranty, why not buy a really good one?

Many buyers mistake dealer-issued warranties for manufacturers’ warranties. In some cases, the salesperson may even try to let you think the warranty will cover repairs at any of the dealerships affiliated with that manufacturer (say, any Chrysler or Mitsubishi dealership). Of course, such warranties do exist, but they’re more common for new cars than used cars.

In short, if a used car dealer ever tries to sell you an extended auto warranty, make sure to ask flat out: will this warranty cover repairs done anywhere, or just this dealership? Double-check the warranty itself to make sure it has a third-party company’s name on it, not the dealership’s.

Better yet, why not just buy the extended warranty directly from the warranty company rather than pay the dealer hundreds of dollars of markup on it? That way, you can also research the warranty thoroughly, without pressure.

In fact, you should start investigating extended auto warranties even before you go to the dealership. You’ll certainly like the salesperson’s face when you tell him you know what the original warranty company charges for the warranty they’re trying to sell you. You’ll also know in advance how much total the car purchase really will cost you.

Don’t wait. Start looking at extended auto warranties now, before the dealerships’ salespeople ever have a chance to breathe down your neck.

Government announces plans to help banking crisis

September 1st, 2010

Oct 8 2008By Holly Williams

Chancellor Alistair Darling today announced a £50 billion emergency rescue plan for stricken UK banks.

The scheme will see taxpayers’ money used to buy stakes in major banks in an attempt to halt the meltdown in the financial sector.

The bail-out comes after another day of panic on the stock market, with banks suffering devastating share losses amid concerns over their funding.

Royal Bank of Scotland shares plummeted by almost 40%.

Mr Darling said that the measures the Government was taking were in response to “extraordinary times”.

“Those are absolutely critical so far as the system is concerned and we want to make sure that we can get the system going again,” he told Sky News.

“It is a process that inevitably will take time. It is not an instant change but it is a restructuring, it is stabilising the system, and that is very important.”

HBOS, which is in the process of being taken over by Lloyds TSB, said it welcomed today’s announcement.

“The Government’s announcement represents a very real and serious intention on the part of the authorities, following consultation with the banking industry, to bring stability and certainty to the UK banking system.

“HBOS believes that this initiative is very much in the interests of its shareholders and customers.”

The Chancellor said the taxpayer would not lose out.

“The taxpayers’ interest is being protected,” he said.

“I’m very clear that in return for all this, the taxpayer has got to see some upside. In relation to lending to small businesses, in relation to mortgages… that’s important too.”

Mr Darling said he still did not “rule anything out” but, of today’s package, he said: “I believe it will go a long way.”

He admitted he had been “irritated” by speculation about the package since Sunday because the Government was working on the package.

“I wanted to announce it when the time was right, when we had got everything sorted out, we had a scheme that worked and the big banks were signed up to it,” he said.

“And we actually finished these discussions only a few hours ago.”

Mr Darling said it was “absolutely not” true that the chairman and chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland would lose their jobs as part of a deal with the Government.

“It’s not the Government’s business to deal with banks’ appointments,” he said. “It is entirely a matter for banks.”

Eight UK banks and building societies - including RBS, Barclays, HBOS, Lloyds TSB and Nationwide - have signed up to an initial £25 billion scheme.

And the Government said it stood ready to make at least another £25 billion available for other eligible institutions.

The Bank of England is also extending the existing £50 billion Special Liquidity Scheme to £200 billion, while a further £250 billion being pumped in under a debt guarantee scheme.

It is hoped that the extraordinary measures will provide the capital boost needed and help restore confidence to get banks lending to each other again.

But the Government is demanding that in return for the public-backed cash injection, banks must cap executive pay and shareholder dividends and commit to supporting lending to homebuyers and small businesses.

Details of the stake-buying scheme reveal that taxpayers will buy preference shares in the banks, which means that they will be first in line for the pay-out of dividends.

The Government sought to give assurances that taxpayer interests would be protected.

A statement said: “If the Government is to provide the capital, the issue will carry terms and conditions that appropriately reflect the financial commitment being made by the taxpayer.

“In reaching agreement on capital investment, the Government will need to take into account dividend policies and executive compensation practices and will require a full commitment to support lending to small businesses and home buyers.”

Reports also suggested that RBS had agreed a boardroom clear-out in return for the state-assisted boost.

It is understood that the bank’s chief executive Sir Fred Goodwin and chairman Sir Tom McKillop had agreed to stand down.

Mr Darling said he would be announcing measures in the Commons later to help British depositors in Icesave - the internet arm of the Icelandic Landsbanki bank which was nationalised yesterday by the Icelandic government.

He told GMTV: “I am very aware of the fact that Iceland has, sadly, chosen to default on its obligations here. We are pursuing Iceland and we will pursue it vigorously to make sure that we get the money due to us back.

“But in the meantime I am going to be able to help those savers who would otherwise have to look to Iceland to get their money back. I am prepared to stand behind them and to stand behind the depositors.

“It demonstrates my commitment to help people who have put money into banks in these exceptional circumstances.”

Shadow chancellor George Osborne said the Tories would be “as constructive as possible”.

“We want this to work, we hope it will work,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“This is the final chapter of the age of irresponsibility and it’s absolutely extraordinary that a government has been driven by events to today’s announcement.”

Mr Osborne said it was the “right thing” to provide for the recapitalisation of the banks and some guarantees of the inter-bank market.

But he added: “I want to make sure - and I hope that in detailed negotiations with the individual banks the Chancellor makes sure - that this money is used to allow credit to flow through the economy again, to get that loan extended to the small businesses who need it, to get the family mortgage extended, it is not used to pay bonuses for bankers.

“I think people would be shocked if bonuses were being paid to the banks that take this money.”

Mr Darling said the overall package was “a major step forward”, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to do “whatever it takes” to maintain the stability of the system.

“The big problem is that if we don’t do this, we run the risk that banks will stop lending to each other and if they don’t lend to each other, then they won’t lend to us,” he told GMTV.

“That is happening here, it is happening in America, it is happening in Europe, it is happening all over the world. I want to give a jolt to the system to move it on.”

Newly-appointed Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy was one of the first senior politicians to arrive at Downing Street this morning.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn was the next member of the Cabinet to arrive, followed shortly after by a stony-faced Peter Mandelson, the newly-appointed Business Secretary.

Hazel Blears, the Communities and Local Government Secretary, smiled as she made her way into the building.

Mr Darling smiled to the waiting media as he arrived for a press conference at Downing Street.

But he refused to be drawn when asked if the scheme would work.

The Key To Solving Business Problems

September 1st, 2010

Let’s face it. The “secret” to surviving and thriving in business largely relies on our ability to solve problems. Problems with customers, problems with suppliers, problems with employees, or sales problems…they all poses potential setbacks or opportunities. The reason that these can be like diamonds waiting to be found is because most of your competitors are grappling with the same questions also. The “winner” in the marketplace is the one who comes up with the most effective and efficient solution to these challenges.

“So what’s the answer?”, you say. In a word: brainstorming.

Brainstorming is popular problem solving and innovation techniques in a wide variety of disciplines, like engineering, manufacturing, sales, and resource or project management. To get results from new ideas, this process asks for a fine measure of creativity as well!

Sometimes coming up with new ideas can be a challenge. It may be difficult and/or expensive, then at other times working on the wrong type of idea, can be catastrophic as well! We even need to be creative with our new ideas and how use them, not just how we come up with them!

In many companies research and development often takes a back seat and brainstorming is just one technique you can use to ensure that this business priority does not fall by the wayside!

Novel, weird or even off-the-bat type ideas might not always be practical or ‘wise’, but sometimes this is where genius resides and reveals itself. Absurdity oftentimes prove to hold some creativity keys that leads us to say that in brainstorming we never criticize, we generate new ideas first, and not evaluate them! THIS IS THE FIRST AND GOLDEN RULE OF BRAINSTORMING! (initially at least!)

No matter how wild or crazy it might seem, ideas sometimes come from the strangest people and places we could possibly imagine. It can be quite a challenge, obstacle and task both personally and collectively to let go and just be creative. We are taught to be in control, not absurd and this might actually hamper our own and dynamic interaction, innovation, inspiration and brainstorming. We need to create and environment conducive to coming up with GREAT, NEW IDEAS! It is sometimes counter-intuitive, wild and crazy… and we need to learn to be OK with it!

When you develop a culture of brainstorming and provide yourself and your co-workers with the tools and time to generate ideas, you give yourself an edge that could be the difference between dominating the field or being just an “also-ran”. Fisher-Price iXL is a tweener that no kid needs convincing of

September 1st, 2010

“But mommy…it’s like your Kindle and Daddy’s iPod Touch! I want one NOW!” Yep, that’s how the discovery of Fisher Price’s iXL is going to go down in the Toys R US aisle, like it or not. In what we can only compare to a shrunken Entourage Edge, the $80 clamshell device is meant for 3-to-6 year olds that are just learning to read and write, and it packs a color, resistive touchscreen and a plastic stylus. While some tots may complain about the not-very-finger-friendly display or the rather chunky and heavy design, Fisher gets that it’s all about the software. In addition to the “app based” home screen (which we were told was modeled after the iPhone or iPad), the iXL comes preloaded with games, an animated story book and other applications — additional children’s e-books will be available for download from its online store when the device goes on sale this summer. Using a Mac or a PC, parents can also sideload those illustrated titles, as well as pictures and MP3s using the onboard USB port. Well, you heard the kids… they want it now!
